Check Rice County VINELink

A Rice County VINELink inmate check can confirm the reported custody status of one person connected to the county jail and can register a release alert. The key is choosing the right Minnesota notice system. County-jail events and state-prison events use different channels, even though both facilities can be in Faribault. Search with enough detail to avoid a same-name mistake, read the facility and status together, and treat a released result as a custody update rather than a full release record. The originating agency remains the source for the exact event.

Rice County VINELink Coverage

The state service is Minnesota VINE, reached through VINELink or by telephone. Official Minnesota materials say VINE connects to county jails. For a person booked at the Rice County Jail, it is the automated channel for a specific Rice County custody-status check and a notice when the participating jail reports a change. It is not an archive of all past Rice County confinement.

VINE does not turn the current Rice County roster into a release list. The Rice County roster displays people currently listed at its stated time. A VINE result focuses on one matched person and may report current facility and custody status. If the person has left the jail, Rice County Sheriff records staff holds the detailed release or transfer event. Court records explain the judge's order, but they may not record the exact time Rice County jail staff completed it.

Note: A Rice County Jail booking may never create a DOC record if the person is not committed to the state commissioner.

Rice County VINELink Release Fields

VINE is a custody-status and notification service, not a certified release record. Available details help identify the right person and state what the jail reported. They do not supply every legal fact behind release. The exact fields can vary with the result and current interface, so preserve the source labels when recording an answer.

FieldWhat it can establish
Person nameThe identity name tied to the participating custody record; compare other details.
Identifying detailsInformation offered to separate similar names, when available.
Custody statusThe person's reported status in the connected jail system.
Custody facilityThe facility associated with that result, which helps prevent a wrong-system match.
Released outcomeA report that the jail sent a release or custody-change event to VINE.
Registration optionThe path to request a notice about later status changes for that record.

A released outcome does not tell whether charges were dismissed, bond conditions remain, probation began, another warrant exists, or the person transferred to DOC or another agency. It also does not give the detailed releasing authority. Those questions belong to Sheriff records, MCRO, the DOC Public Viewer, and Community Corrections.

Does “released” mean free of all custody? Not always. A Rice County Jail status can change because the person moved to another agency. Ask for the destination when the practical question is whether the person returned to the community.

Register Rice County Release Alerts

Registration begins from the correct person's VINELink result. Choose the offered notice method and provide the contact information requested by the current system. The available mix may change. For telephone registration, official Minnesota VINE material calls for a personal identification number, or PIN. The PIN confirms receipt, stops repeat notification calls, and helps manage the registration.

  1. Confirm the record belongs to the intended person and Rice County Jail.
  2. Select the option to register for notifications from that result.
  3. Choose an offered contact method, such as telephone or email.
  4. Enter the requested contact details accurately.
  5. Create a telephone PIN when prompted and keep it private.
  6. Complete the on-screen confirmation and retain the information needed to update or cancel the registration.

The Minnesota VINE fact sheet says the PIN is needed to change or cancel telephone or email information through the service. Phone alerts may repeat until the proper PIN acknowledges receipt. Follow the current interface because button names and digital delivery options can change.

Registration can also be completed by calling 877-664-8463. Give attention to the state, person, and facility attached to the record. A notice should be checked against the agency if exact timing or the type of event matters. The alert may describe a release, transfer, or other custody change without supplying the underlying court authority. Save the time and wording of the message, then ask the Rice County source for the public event fields. If contact information changes, update the registration rather than assuming notices will follow automatically. The PIN should not be shared with anyone who does not manage the alert.

Rice County VINE or Haven

Rice County has a local system trap: both the county jail and a state prison are in Faribault, but their notification routes differ. Minnesota VINE covers county-jail custody changes. Minnesota Haven covers DOC incarceration and release notices. A search in the wrong channel can create a false impression that no record exists.

For MCF-Faribault or another Minnesota prison, first use the DOC Public Viewer to verify the person's state record and status. Minnesota's custody and release notification page directs DOC cases to Haven. The documented notice topics can include transfers or custody changes, release, agent assignment, sentence expiration, and listed early-release programs. Phone notices are generally not offered for those DOC events except escapes.

A person leaving MCF-Faribault can move to supervised release, another facility, work release, another jurisdiction, or a detainer. Facility location does not prove that Rice County supervises the person afterward. Use the DOC status and the assigned office together.

Note: VINELink and Haven are separate Rice County release-notification channels because jail and prison records come from different agencies.

Rice County VINELink Limits

Automated information can lag. A recent booking or status event may not yet be synchronized, and a no-result can stem from spelling, timing, or a search in the wrong state or system. A transfer may also appear as a custody change without explaining the destination. VINE does not create the Sheriff's legal event record and should not be treated as an archival certificate.

Important: Do not rely only on an automated notice when immediate personal safety is involved; contact local authorities and confirm the status directly.

For current Rice County custody, call the Jail at 507-332-6021. For an exact past release or transfer event, contact Rice County Sheriff Records Staff at 507-332-6003 during listed weekday office hours or submit a focused request under the county's Data Practices procedures. Ask for the Rice County release time, event type, releasing authority, and destination agency. MCRO can then explain the public court order or disposition.

Federal and immigration custody fall outside Minnesota VINE. Use the BOP Inmate Locator for current and former federal prisoners, generally from 1982 forward. Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator for current ICE location. Neither should be recast as a Rice County Jail history.

Confirm Rice County Release Status

A complete check follows the source that owns each fact. VINE can answer whether its connected jail reported a custody status or change. Rice County Records Staff can provide the public release event. MCRO can show the release order, bail terms, sentence, or disposition. The DOC record controls a prison transfer or supervised-release status.

Keep the search date and source with the result. Ask for an existing record rather than a narrative conclusion. If the person is absent from VINE, report only that no match was found with the terms used. For an older Rice County event, notification history is not enough. A focused Data Practices request should identify the person, the approximate booking and release period, and any known charge or court file number. Ask for the public booking or intake record, admission time, release time, release type, releasing authority, and destination agency if transferred. A narrow request helps staff locate existing data without creating a new conclusion.

MCRO can add the public court context. Search by case number when possible, then look for bail or bond conditions, a release order, dismissal, commitment, sentence, probation, warrant, or discharge entry. A judge's order establishes legal authority, while VINE reports the custody change sent by the participating jail. When the last known location was MCF-Faribault, start over in the DOC system. The state status, date labels, and supervision office should agree before the result is described. For federal or ICE custody, use those agency routes instead of treating a VINELink no-result as proof of release.

If VINE says released but the destination is unclear, seek the Sheriff's event before stating that the person returned to the community. This source-by-source approach resolves a common Rice County error: confusing departure from one custody system with the end of all custody or supervision. It also preserves the difference between a status alert and the lasting agency record. Record the exact words shown, not a broader conclusion. “Not found in this system as searched” is the accurate result when no match appears.
